Finding EXTRAordinary in the Ordinary

Tylan Muncy, MD

Dr. Tylan Muncy is an Emergency Medicine physician at the Baptist Emergency Room & Urgent Care facility in Navarre, Florida.

Reason for Patient Visit:
A man experiencing homelessness visited the Baptist Navarre Emergency Room and Urgent Care with severe burns and blisters on his feet, caused by prolonged wear of ill-fitting shoes and exposure to the heat and sun.

EXTRAordinary Care

After treating the man’s injuries, Dr. Muncy took an additional step to help ensure the patient’s well-being beyond his immediate medical needs. Moved by the patient’s situation, Dr. Muncy took off his own shoes and gave them to the man, offering him much-needed relief with a pair of sturdy, comfortable shoes. This compassionate gesture went far beyond standard medical care, reflecting Dr. Muncy’s dedication to honoring each patient’s dignity. Working the rest of his shift without his own shoes, Dr. Muncy continued caring for others with the same attention and compassion. His kindness turned an ordinary workday into a profound example of empathy and respect for those in need.

“Muncy is always looking at the big picture on what needs to happen to get these patients through their life journey. Do they need a PCP? He will find one. Do they need follow up, specialist tests, just to talk? Dr. Muncy is the guy. He will give his shirt.. or quite literally the shoes off his person to help.”
