Preston Smith joined ApolloMD in 2008 to manage the ValorMD professional liability insurance division and provide counsel for risk management, claims and quality improvement for its insured physicians. Prior to joining ApolloMD, his legal practice included an array of healthcare related areas including healthcare and hospital law, medical malpractice defense, litigation, and physician practice contracts and business organization. He also serves as a State Senator in the Georgia General Assembly where he is a member of Appropriations, Health and Human Services and other influential committees.
Sen. Smith's contributions to healthcare and tort reform are numerous. In 2005, he was the chief sponsor and principal author of the statewide reforms to Georgia's medical liability laws. Georgia Trend magazine recognized Sen. Smith as one of the 40 most prominent leaders in Georgia under the age of 40. He was also named among Georgia's 21 rising star lawyers by The Daily Report. The Atlanta Business Chronicle recognized Sen. Smith on its "Who's Who" list of Georgia leaders in the fields of law and business, and Sen. Smith was named to the list of the '100 Most Influential Georgians' by Georgia Trend magazine. In 2010, the Georgia Society for Ambulatory Surgery Centers (GSASC) named Smith Legislator of the Year as a result of his patient advocacy and numerous healthcare reforms.
